It’s been a little bit of a break from the Blog here on the site.  I got quite busy with some projects here at the store and time was not on my side to get a Blog done.  But here is the latest installment…

Tokina Lenses

For years, we’ve carried the Manufacturer’s (Nikon, Canon, Sony) lenses along with Tamron & SIGMA.  Recently, we’ve started carrying Tokina Lenses here at the store.  Tokina makes quite a few killer wide-angle lenses with the most popular one being the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 PRO DX-II.  They also make a beautiful full-frame 16-28mm f/2.8 that has raving reviews for it’s price category.  If you are in the market for a new lens, come in and check out the Tokina line…

twitter

So, I’ve been touting how I’m going to get the store going on Twitter and I’ve really dropped the ball on that.  Social Media is a very important tool for businesses to rely on to get their name out there.  Trust me, I’d rather have people follow us on our different social media outlets like twitter and Facebook that to burn a bunch of money on a newspaper ad that nobody reads.  I’ll work on it and get my ass in gear…

Manfrotto

I brought in quite a bit of Manfrotto at the end of last week.  I was able to score a deal on a few items in particular that I think might be great deals for our customers.  First, I found a small bag that I would figure is for medium sized point-and-shoot cameras (Canon G16, for example).  It’s called the Manfrotto Solo 1 Holster Bag and we are selling it for $19.95.  Another bag I brought in from them is the Manfrotto Bella II Shoulder Bag for Mirrorless Cameras and larger point-and-shoot cameras.  We are selling that one for $24.95.  Both bags seem to be well made and should be a nice alternative to the normal Lowepro and Tamrac bags we carry.

Finally, I brought in a bunch of tripods but one in particular has been very successful for us, the Manfrotto MK294A3-D3RC2BB which we sell for $169.  This is a great mid-range tripod with a 3-Way head that would probably work for 80% of our customer base and not too crazy expensive.  If you are in the area and you want to try this tripod, bring your camera and the heaviest lens you own and we’ll put it together and try it out…

Tamron “Tailgate” Party

I’ve mentioned in Blogs past that I’m trying to get an event together for the end of the summer here at the store.  Here’s where I am with those plans…

In late August, maybe Saturday, the 23rd, I’m going to get our Tamron Specialist to come out and bring a bunch of lenses to the store.  Dano is going to do a few “Lens Technology Seminars” throughout the day and we will invite customers to bring their cameras to try different Tamron Lenses.  We can have a cookout in the parking lot, drinks (though I doubt we can give away beer) and giveaways.

It’s still in the infancy but that’s sort of the outline.  I need to get it slammed down so I can promote it wisely so we can get a lot of people here and enjoy the day!  Should be fun…

Song Recommendation

Today’s Song Recommendation is a song that reminds me of the warm weather that we are going to be getting towards the end of this week.  I’ve got a bunch of damn yardwork to do this weekend and one of the songs that will be on my headphones is “Hollywood” by Los Lonely Boys.  Great song, one of my favorites…

Welcome back to all the readers of this blog.  We’ve gotten a lot of website traffic from this blog and I appreciate all the hits and clicks and such…

Tamron 150-600mm VC Lens

We’ve got a ton of people waiting on the Tamron 150-600mm VC Lens for Canon and Nikon.  If you are on our waiting list, be patient since they are a son-of-a-gun to get in stock.  I haven’t had a Nikon Mount yet and we’ve only had 2 Canon Mounts.  They are on order, just playing the waiting game…

Morning Seminar

I went to a Seminar this morning at the Kent State Hotel & Conference Center.  It was about how to strengthen online presence for our business and was offered by Full Spectrum Marketing.  I have a pretty good grasp about Social Media but I took a few things from this Seminar, which is good.  There is work to be done, that’s for sure, but at least we are on the right track.  Also, I texted with Dr. Lester Lefton and told him how nice of a facility that place is.  If you haven’t been there yet, stop in and check that joint out…

Also had a meeting with my sales rep from WONE 97.5 FM after the seminar.  That meeting sucked because I had to cut some of the advertising I do with them.  For the last few years, I’ve promoted Canon on that radio station, with regularity.  Unfortunately, because of business decisions (not made by us), we’ve had to trim the advertising quite a bit.  Needless to say, I didn’t like doing that and I’ll take it out on my Canon Rep the next time we talk.  Head’s up, Fred…

Why don’t you carry certain brands?

One of the questions I get quite a bit is “Why don’t you carry _____?”  There are 2 reasons we carry or don’t carry a certain brand or camera.  1st criteria is, “Is the camera/lens any good?”  We test every piece of equipment that we sell.  Of course, price positioning is always taken into account but there is still a certain amount of testing done.  2nd, “Does the company want to help us and the customer and keep both of us happy?”  This is a biggie and the reason that we do not carry Fuji and Olympus anymore.  When companies want to “jam” a customer or tell us “deal with it” when we have a business problem, we’d rather not do business with them…

twitter

I’m gong to start doing more with Twitter (@CampusCamera) more.  I know Facebook has the biggest audience but there is a certain demographic that is leaning more towards Twitter these days.  Hey, anything to get our name out there…

Reviews

One of the things highlighted in that Online Presence Seminar today was Customer Reviews.  I am so proud of our online reputation via our Reviews.  If you get the opportunity (and you’ve had a nice experience at our store), please feel free to go to google, yahoo, Facebook or Yelp and give us a review.  We appreciate the great word of mouth that we continually get…

That’s all for today.  Enjoy the song “Ants Marching” by Dave Matthews Band during your busy workday.  It’s a cool song with a wicked saxophone throughout.  One of my all time favorites…

Eric

Happy Good Friday to you and yours.  This is going to be a quick one because we are closing at 3:00 today with normal hours tomorrow…

Our new class session is starting on May 6th.  We are going to have a Free Preview class on April 29th from 6:00-7:00 PM here at our store.  It is FREE and we will quickly go over the topics that will be covered in the upcoming series…

I am always puzzled when someone asks “Do you guys sell cameras?” when they walk in the door.  Have done that bad of a job branding ourselves that people don’t know we sell cameras at Campus Camera & Imaging?  I can’t wrap my head around it.  I mean, to me, it’s like walking into Ruth’s Chris Steak House and asking if they have steak on the menu.  What am I missing here???

Did you know that we do Passport Photos here in the store?  Most of the time, it’s done in 10 minutes!  No matter what country you need your passport, visa or immigration photos taken for, we can do it.  We just ask that you bring in your country’s photo specifications.  You get a pair of pictures that are cut to size for $9…

If you haven’t looked into the Phottix line of flashes, you are really missing out.  We sell a TON of Phottix flashes since they are an excellent alternative to the expensive Nikon SB-910 and Canon 600EX-RT at a fraction of the cost.  If you are looking for a flash and want to spend nearly 1/2 of what the expensive flashes cost, take a look at the Phottix Mitros and Mitros+…

I’m still spun out with some people not knowing we sell cameras here…

Anyway, have a safe and happy Easter.  Hug your family members that you may not get to see all that often.  Enjoy the weekend!  And if you are in your car, heading down the road, check out “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line ft. Nelly.  Great song to roll down the windows and turn the radio up…

It’s been real,

Eric

The Blog is Back!  Took a couple of days off because we’ve been extremely busy here in the store.  As always, we appreciate your continued business!  Now, on to the show…

Our 1st SCOTTeVEST order will be here on Friday.  Lots of online buzz behind this company and their products.  Besides us, the closest Authorized Retailer to us is in Pittsburgh so I’m hoping it really takes off.  Take a look at the Travel Vest by SCOTTeVEST as it is their best seller and the primary vest we will carry…

The Facebook Foto Contest is now LIVE!  We’ve had a couple of great submissions!  If you still want to enter, just email a photo with “Spring Has Sprung” as the theme to our email.  The winner gets a $25 Gift Certificate to our store…

I’ve got a sweet deal for a used Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens on our Deal of the Moment site.  Check it out, here

I’m putting together an event for the end of the summer.  It’s in its infancy right now but I think I’m going to do a special Tamron Event here at the store.  Lots of ideas going through my head but I’m thinking a big cookout in our parking lot.  Bring your camera and try all the Tamron lenses and we’ll try to have special deals/rebates.  Lots of work to do, ideas to come up with, advertising, etc. but I’ll keep you posted…

If you LIKE us on Facebook, we posted our new Carl Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 for Nikon that showed yesterday.  We purposely have not opened it so that the person who purchases this marvel will be the 1st to touch it.  What an awesome lens…

We have a shipment of BlackRapid Straps that will be here tomorrow.  Man, we’ve been the selling the hell out of those straps!  Such a good product that so many customers rave about when they own them.  I’m hoping that the SCOTTeVESTs go over as big as the BlackRapid has…

Just a head’s up that tomorrow is Good Friday and we will be closing early, at 3:00 PM, instead of the normal 7:00…

It’s going to be a great weekend to get out and visit your families this weekend for Easter.  Should be clear skies, nice weather.  So get out and get it done!  Like an old friend used to tell me “Get it done. Even if it’s wrong, get it done.”  So I leave you with a song that ties this all together.  Check out “Do It (‘Til You’re Satisfied)” by B.T. Express and get your weekend off to the right foot.

It’s been real,

Eric

Took a day off of the Blog yesterday but I’m back with another one to round out the week.  Let’s go…

I didn’t have much time to write the Blog yesterday because I was slammed with Sensor Cleanings.  Before yesterday, the most cleanings I’ve done in a day was 4, maybe 5.  Because of the Free Sensor Cleaning Day we promoted, I did 23.  Whew.  Some were decent, some were rough and some were pretty much brutal!  No matter, everyone who walked in with cameras got a free cleaning and I was happy to do it.  Next time, I’ll do one on a Saturday so that even more people will have the opportunity to come on out…

If you don’t follow Chief Oliver from the Brimfield Police Department on Facebook, you should.  He seems like he has it all figured out…

I just got an email, as I am typing this blog, from SIGMA stating that they are bringing out a new 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART lens for Nikon, Canon & Sony.  The Canon mount looks like it will start shipping at the end of April, Nikon & Sony in May.  What’s the scratch?  Looks like $950.  Placing the order now..

Would you buy a Sony TV from Campus Camera & Imaging?  Just askin’…

Finally, I can “officially” talk about another new lens that will be showing up here in a few weeks.  Tamron announced today a new 16-300MM F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD All-In-One Zoom.  We’ve sold a ton of the all-in-one zoom lenses and this one has more range than any of them!  This one is made for crop-sensor cameras and should be arriving toward the beginning of May…

Should be a beautiful weather weekend here in NE Ohio this weekend.  We haven’t had weather like that in months.  Get out and take pictures or do whatever it is that you enjoy…

That’s a wrap from Kent, OH.  The tune I’m going to leave you with is one that my son has been singing the last couple of days since he heard it in the movie, “Chicken Little”.  Take a listen to “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John.  Thanks for reading and have a safe weekend.

It’s been real,

Eric
